Peter Coccoma is a filmmaker and composer. After years of playing in bands, he moved to an island in Lake Superior where he wrote his debut solo album of music for electronics and strings, A Place to Begin, that was featured as one of NPR’s Best Albums of the Year. He’s directed music videos under different aliases for labels such as Bella Union, Sony, and Smithsonian Folkways. Recently he has released a series of three short films: an experimental short, Jeano, released with Smithsonian Folkways; a narrative short, Giro Prepares for Death; and now Drifts, his most recent narrative short. His work deals with themes about how our experience of life is shaped by the emotional and psychological states that impact our awareness. He is currently developing a feature film and planning the release of his follow up LP.
